Browse the material databases

Description

When you start from scratch, the material lists in a new IronCAD file are empty. To populate these material lists so that the materials become available for the model, you must add materials from a database. Databases can be opened using the corresponding buttons, with the top section applying to the base material (panels, profiles), while the bottom row applies to edge banding.

Browse the database

These buttons displays the contents of the database linked to Para-Flex. In the list that appears, the desired material can be added to the Scene file by double-clicking it. It will then appear in the material list and can be assigned to an item (to see how that works, check the Material List section on the page Applying materials).
When the IronCAD Scene file is saved, the used materials are saved in that ICS file and can be used from that point on without requiring a database connection.
The pop up shows the base materials at the top of the window, corresponding available dimensions (board or sheet sizes, profile lengths) are displayed at the bottom.

Just like with other lists in Para-Flex, you can make it easier to find data by using conditional formatting. In the example above, all rows with the code “V313” are highlighted in orange. More information about this feature can be found on this website as it is based on the DevExpress framework.
The shown data can also be filtered to make it easier to find the right material, by entering text or values in the top rows for one or more columns.

Multiple materials/databases

Depending on the types of materials linked, multiple databases can be linked to Para-Flex. Examples include steel profiles, plastic sheets, or wooden beams. If more than one database is configured, an arrow will appear next to the search button. This arrow allows you to select the desired database.

The connected database file(s)

The database files to be used can be configured in the Para-Flex Settings. Go to Options > Settings  and scroll down on the tab Para-Flex to find the Path Configuration section:

MDB files for board materials and edge banding are set up by default. If you need additional material types, please contact our help desk.
Para-Flex basically displays the contents of the database and offers a few editing options (such as adding materials or board dimensions). However, we recommend using a dedicated database editor such as Microsoft Access or MDBPlus to keep the data in your file up to date. Since Para-Flex is, so to speak, a guest in the file, we cannot guarantee that every database change made using Para-Flex will be written to the correct fields in the original file.

Conditions

  • At least one database has to be linked to the buttons in order to be active.

Tip

It doesn’t matter in which order you assign the sheet material or edgebanding
